The
traditional Hawaiian Palaoa was a prized symbol of chiefly
rank in old Hawai`i and made of a carved whale tooth, known
as whale ivory. The piece was strung on thick strands of finely
braided human hair. Our representation of a Hawaiian Lei Palaoa
is produced in solid
sterling silver.
Each and every piece is hand crafted with the 'aloha spirit'.
The
Hawaiian Palaoa is approximately 3/8 inch (10mm) wide x 2
1/8 inch high (55mm). This piece comes threaded on satin
cord to tie around the neck.

Hawaiian Palaoa comes threaded on black satin cord ready
to simply tie around the neck. We recommend ordering
the cord length you like from the drop down menu on the

- If
requested, we can add
clasps for an additional cost. Simply select
'With Clasp Ends' from the options below. When ordering
clasp ends, ensure that you order the exact cord length
required to hang around your neck from end to end.
Use some cotton thread to get a feel for what length is
comfortable for you. We will adjust this length by
approximately 1/2 inch (1cm) to allow for the clasp end
spacing.
